Huang Hui-zhen1, Chen Zhen-yi2

Abstract

To foster exceptional talent and boost the number of people in the agricultural industry, in accordance with each subindustry and learning stage, the Farmers’ Academy continues to plan and provide systematized training to boost farmers’ professional knowledge and competitiveness. With 2018-2019 Farmers’ Academy basic- and advanced-level training recipients as the subjects of this study, a questionnaire entitled “Self-evaluation Scale for Farmers” was used to analyze the capacity for risk of farmers in Taitung, after which they were divided into categories. The analysis shows that there are significant differences among different groups in the aspects of “planned or major method of farming,” “acceptable degree of agricultural product price fluctuation under normal circumstances,” “greatest bearable proportion of agricultural investment loss,” “reasons for joining farmers’ organizations,” “main purpose for working in the agricultural industry,” and “responses when operational investment stop-loss points are exceeded.” It may thus be used as a reference in categorizing different types of farmers.

Key words: Agricultural risk, training for farmers
