Chinese Society of AgrometeorologyPresents TTDARES with 2014 Group Academic Award

Due to outstanding achievements in research related to agrometeorology and crop growth in recent years, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station(TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuanwon the 2014 Group Academic Award from the Chinese Society of Agrometeorology. Branch Director Lu Po-song represented the TTDARES in going to the annual event held by the society to receive the award.

Director Chen Hsin-yen stated that as head of the TTDARES, he felt extremely honored to receive this award. He thanked everyone at the TTDARES for their long, hard work that has made recent achievements possible. The aspectsin which the TTDARES has recently carried out research with regards to agrometeorlolgy include:

  1. The successful breeding of 5 new drought-tolerant crops and 2 new heat-tolerant crops.
  2. 3 patents with regards to energy efficiency.
  3. Technology transfer and variety authorization to 17 companies.
  4. The creation of a) 3 types of technology for the prevention of crop damage from natural disasters as well as post-natural disaster remediation technology, b) 4 types of technology for energy-efficient cultivation, and c) 1 type of technology for the adjustment of the sugar apple photoperiod so as to lengthen the harvest season.
  5. Having charge over monitoring the occurrence, growth, and decline of disease and pest problems as well as information on the climate. We instituted a large-scale cooperative control of the Oriental fruit fly whichresulted in a 98% population density decline, significantly decreasing the percentage of fruit damage.
  6. The printing of 11 special technology publications and technology reports. The presentation of 25 journal articles, 20 seminar articles, and over 60 technology reports and other such articles.
