Hand pollination is an important technique in growing sugar apples (Annona squamosa L.) as it can ensure fruit set percentage and the fruit’s roundness and proper shape. Sugar apple pollen is quite sensitive to environmental changes, so if it is not handled properly after being collected, it is apt to be less vigor, reducing pollination work efficiency. Also, less vigor pollen is harder to keep for an extended period of time, which will make it difficult for growers to respond in times of bad weather or a lack of pollen. The TTDARES has developed techniques for handling sugar apple flowers and storing pollen. The pollen is stored in airtight containers to maintain its water content and vigor and reduce the negative effects caused by the surrounding environment. Different types of storage require different temperatures of refrigeration, which can extend the vigor of the pollen by one to three days.
