Resolving the Seasonal Labor Shortage Problem—Professional Skill Team Training Achievements

2021-03-02

To improve the problem of seasonal labor shortages, the Council of Agriculture launched a program for the training of professional agricultural skill teams in 2017. In Taitung, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station held a ten-day hands-on training event at which agriculture experts and farm owners taught trainees a variety of skills, including pruning, fruit bagging, flower/fruit thinning, fertilization, harvesting, and the operation of small machinery for sugar apple trees and field management techniques for grain crops. The team is serving the industry well and injecting new life into farming villages in Taitung. By the end of 2020, the team had 30 members. They find work with the help of the Taimali and Taitung Farmers’ Associations, thus helping to alleviate the problem of seasonal labor shortages.
