Establishment of green globular bodies(GGBs) propagation model for Taiwan native ornamental ferns.

2018-01-26

Taiwan with its surrounding islets harbors about 700 species of ferns and fern allies. In order to promote the application of Taiwan's native ferns, these studies screened three native ferns for ornamental use:
Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott, Davallia solida (Forst.) Sw and Phymatosorus scolopendria. In further research, the green globular bodies (GGBs) propagation models have found. The new propagation method through initiation of green globular bodies (GGBs) from rhizome explants of in vitro grown sporophytes. The GGB initiation was first obtained by incubating the explants on MS medium supplemented with benzylaminopruine (BA) and kinetin. Well, the GGBs were proliferated rapidly during culture in MS medium supplemented with BA, and achieved spontaneous during subculture on MS with no PGRs. Finally, we could obtain new plantlets through appropriate ex vitro and acclimatization growth. Applying GGBs propagation method, we could shorten the breeding time and normalize the plantlets. We hoped that through the development of new technologies, The ornamental application of native ferns could be expanded and created value-added.
