TTDARES Holds Workshop for In-Service Teachers to Root Food and Agriculture Education into Schools

In an effort to promote food and agriculture education, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) held a Food and Agriculture Education Workshop for in-service teachers from schools of all levels in Taitung County, providing lessons on farming techniques while advocating dietary concepts with the goal of establishing food and agriculture education concepts and consensus at schools.

The orientation of the workshop was multi-faceted. Professors were invited to serve as lecturers alongside TTDARES workers. Lecture topics included “How to Promote Food and Agriculture Education at School—Food and Agriculture Education at School for Daily Life,” “Food and Agriculture Education from the Aspect of the Individual’s Dietary Carbon Footprint,” and “Food and Agriculture Education from the Aspects of Place of Production and the Dining Table.” In the lectures, speakers shared about basic knowledge and real-life experiences so as to help in-service teachers understand proper food and agriculture education principles as well as related instructional vision. With the use of materials found in daily life, the lectures entitled “Promotion of the ‘Four Labels and QR Code’ to Ensure School Meal Quality” and “Production of Compost” allowed participants to learn how to recognize product-quality labels and make fertilizer from fallen leaves, equipping them with a better understanding of agriculture-related knowledge and farming techniques. The TTDARES looks forward to participants sharing what they learned with their students, helping students learn new farming and dietary concepts to gain an understanding of the relationships between the land, environment, and food. In this way, students will learn to respect their food and be grateful to the land.

Assistant professor Chen shares about daily food and agriculture education in a lecture entitled “How to Promote Food and Agriculture Education at School.” Assistant professor Zou shares about real-life experiences related to food and agriculture education.
