Organic Growing Techniques for Taiwan Quinoa and Millet Taught at Indigenous Agricultural Industry Mobile Classroom

The Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and the Jinfeng Township administration office held a two-day class called “Organic Growing Techniques for Taiwan Quinoa and Millet” on May 10-11 at the visitor center in Zhengxing Village. At the class, the TTDARES offered all it has learned through research to the new generation of growers in local indigenous villages.

TTDARES Director Chen Hsin-yen and Township Secretary Su Zhongchun hosted the event together. At the opening, Director Chen stated the rich agricultural resources in indigenous villages, such as Taiwan quinoa, millet, and pigeon peas, are popular with consumers and have gained a stable place for themselves in the market while being known for quality. This is a great source of momentum for indigenous village development. The TTDARES will continue to support the development of all kinds of technology to help indigenous growers overcome the problems associated with organic growing. This will encourage more people to engage in organic farming, in turn pushing the use of organic farming for special crops characteristic of indigenous villages.
