To hone growers’ skills with regard to farming vegetables and building simple net houses, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Ministry of Agriculture held the Farmers’ Academy—Advanced Elective Class on Vegetable Cultivation Management and Simple Net House Construction from March 18 to 20, 2026, at the TTDARES grounds. The class helped participants obtain knowledge on growing vegetables and become more familiar with building and maintaining simple net houses. About 1,600 hectares of land are dedicated to vegetable cultivation in Taitung County and are often subject to the threat of storms. If farmers can learn to construct net houses that are wind-resistant and drain properly, year-round production can remain stable with higher yields and quality by reducing losses from natural disasters. The class included aspects of both theory and practice and covered production management within net houses, plant nutrient analysis, and the management of fertilization and diseases/pests. Participants took part in transplanting seedlings and practiced building simple net houses, learning how to reinforce the structure, use net coverings, and control ventilation to boost crop yield and quality. In addition, policy on carbon-neutral emissions and the circular carbon economy was promoted. After the class, participants stated they had learned a lot that they would use on their farms, integrating production efficiency with environmental sustainability.
