In response to the challenges posed by climate change and to ensure food security, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Ministry of Agriculture held the Sustainable and Healthy Agriculture & Annual Experimental Research Achievements Conference on January 13, 2026, hosted by TTDARES Director Chen Hsin-yen and attended by Du Li-hwa, head of the ministry’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency, as well as over 200 farmers and experts in the industrial, public, and academic sectors. Chen stated that TTDARES research revolves around the theme of sustainable, healthy agriculture while holding to the three core principles of Indigenous people’s traditional crops, early ripening and full harvests, and organic LOHAS living, aiming to build up a system that keeps both production efficiency and consumer trust in mind. Experts shared their practical experiences during the first half of the conference, while the second half was dedicated to presentations of accomplishments made by the TTDARES. The first half looked at strategies for mitigating challenges posed by wildlife, the mindset for creating social impact, cross-generational green care for the elderly, and sustainable production. The presentations of the latter half encompassed pest control for gac, use of the fungus Beauveria bassiana in organic rice cultivation, different uses of covers in pineapple fields, horticultural therapy with pumice wall planters, bird control for millet, and achievements of the TTDARES’ Farmers’ Academy. The TTDARES stressed that it will continue to serve as a bridge for cross-sector collaboration while helping farmers optimize their business models and practice sustainable and safe concepts.
