To boost specialty crop cultivation and application capacity for farmers and introduce innovative management ideas, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) held the Farmers’ Academy—Advanced Class on Specialty Crop Cultivation in Taitung and Value-Added Applications beginning on September 4, 2024. The class integrated specialty crop production, processing, and marketing management in discussing the main points of six-sector industrialization. For production, TTDARES staff introduced the features of specialty crop propagation and important aspects of cultivation technique. Participants tried their hands at cutting propagation, which will ensure a stable supply of raw materials in the future. Regarding processing and value-added applications, participants learned through a DIY activity to process raw materials into marketable products as well as direction for value-added development. As for marketing management, the speakers talked about commercial management modes and digital tools, and professionals in the industry shared about their experiences in product development. There was also an on-site hands-on activity to inspire participants with innovative ideas and prepare them for getting into six-sector industrialization. The TTDARES reminded participants that before they invest themselves in specialty crops, they should appraise the state of market channels and product differentiation and gain an understanding of related laws and regulations to ensure smooth operations. Participants were enthusiastically invited to ask the TTDARES in the future for professional advice on questions about cultivation and basic-level processing techniques.
