To assist allies and developing nations in human resource development and collaboration, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund invites foreign officials to come to Taiwan for a variety of workshops on such subjects as economics/commerce, agriculture, SMEs, IT, and public health/medical care. 20 mid-level government officials and researchers attended this Workshop on AI in Agrotechnology. To gain an understanding of Taitung’s smart agricultural applications in rice management and pest/disease monitoring technology, the workshop was held in Guanshan on May 29, 2024, where participants visited a small demonstration field belonging to the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Ministry of Agriculture to observe how a smart monitoring system works in rice cultivation and field management. Also shown was an experimental field for organic rice black bug control, where the seedlings are planted later than usual and a formula containing Metarhizium robertsii alongside the bug’s natural enemy, a species of Telenomus wasp, are used to effectively lower the threat of the bugs and thus better ensure farmers’ harvests. Those who came engaged in enthusiastic discussion with TTDARES staff.
