In promoting circular agriculture, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan presented related accomplishments at the “Circular Agriculture Rice Straw Recycling Accomplishment Presentation” (part of the island-wide Circular Agricultural Accomplishment Tour) in the TTDARES regional education center on October 23, 2020. The event was hosted by TTDARES Deputy Director Chen Yu-chu. Presented for reference by farmers were three major accomplishments: the mechanized use of rice husk biochar, the use of rice straw decomposer and solid/liquid waste-produced biogas for rice cultivation, and techniques for recycling rice straw. Circular agriculture is being strongly promoted by the government. If farmers use techniques discussed at the event in their rice fields as a means of managing weeds and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and herbicides, they will be involved in not only promoting circular agriculture but also helping the environment.
