So as to promote the development of the indigenous people’s crops industry, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, held a release conference for the new winged bean variety, Taitung No. 1 Qingcui, at the Council of Agriculture on December 14, 2018. At the event, the unique form and wonderful taste of this bean with “wings” grown by indigenous people were introduced. The new variety is verdant green, has a tender pod, and produces high yields. After it is cooked, it has a beautiful color and is crispy. The production period of the new variety is also longer than that of the local variety: the former can be grown in spring and fall, while the latter can only be grown in fall. In addition, the new variety is much more robust and resistant to pests and disease, making it an organic, eco-friendly crop worthy of government promotion. If growers manage these crops well, the beans they produce are sure to be high in value.
