In an effort to promote organic and eco-friendly farming, the Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TTDARES) of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan held the Organic and Eco-Friendly Farming Promotional Lecture on June 22 at the Taitung Farmers’ Association. Hosted by TTDARES Director Chen Hsin-yen, topics spoken on at the event included the making of organic liquid fertilizer, smart fertilization, and organic disease/pest control techniques. Also mentioned was the fact that the TTDARES provides free soil, plant, and irrigation water analysis as well as disease/pest diagnosis. In this way, growers who wish to go organic know they have the support they will need when faced with the potential challenges of organic and eco-friendly farming, in turn increasing their willingness to go organic and use eco-friendly techniques. Such efforts will help make Taitung an even more eco-friendly region in the aspects of both agriculture and tourism.
