Mr. Chen Tian-qi (known as “Uncle Turmeric”), recommended by the TTDARES as the representative from Taitung for the 2017 National Top Ten Outstanding Farmers event, was named as one of the winners from among 22 highly-qualified candidates. Chen has long promoted the organic turmeric industry in Taitung, and in addition to producing excellent-quality turmeric, he has also participated in R&D regarding product development and diversity, helping to create new business opportunity. Such promotional sales and exhibition projects and events have successfully marketed his brand, “Uncle Turmeric’s Happy Mountain Garden of Wild Vegetables and Herbs,” all across Taiwan and overseas. Chen has opened up his organic ecology fields to visitors and guided tours, enthusiastically sharing about his organic cultivation methods, helping other growers go organic, and actively injecting life into the local leisure agriculture industry. Furthermore, Chen frequently gives attention to disadvantaged groups by participating in charity services. His overall outstanding achievements have made him very deserving of being selected as one of the 2017 National Top Ten Outstanding Farmers. Chen’s hard work and special achievements are sure to encourage others in the industry to work harder, which in turn will drive the overall healthy development of the agriculture industry in Taitung.
