January 26, 2021, Banchiu Branch Station Lecture on Mango Cultivation Management and Disease/Pest Control Techniques, and Fruit Tree Water-saving Irrigation Promotion

When Typhoon Nepartak hit Taitung in 2016, it wreaked havoc on Taitung’s agriculture. Since mangoes may be harvested in May and June, which is just before typhoon season, many farmers transitioned to this crop. The mangoes grown in Taitung are mostly rare varieties so as to boost competitiveness. In recent years, Taitung has made a name with the variety named ‘Kaohsiung 3’ (also known as ‘Summer Snow’ ), which has a rich fragrance and smooth, dense pulp. To keep boosting development and ensure the quantity and quality of harvests, the TTDARES held the Lecture on Mango Cultivation Management and Disease/Pest Control Techniques, and Fruit Tree Water-saving Irrigation Promotion. Experts in cultivation management and plant protection came to show farmers key techniques and remind them to keep an eye on environmental changes during the flowering stage to prevent a reduction in the fruit set percentage. They also emphasized safe and proper use of agrochemicals in disease and pest prevention. 75 people came to the event, learning and engaging in exchanges. The TTDARES hopes attendees will be able to make good use of what they learned from the event so that the local mango industry will continue to flourish.
