“Rising-star Fruit That Can Be Processed—Soursop Demonstration Event” Held at Banchiu Branch Station on December 5, 2018

2019-02-01

So as to familiarize growers with soursops and their many uses, the TTDARES held the Rising-star Fruit That Can Be Processed—Soursop Demonstration Event at the Banchiu Branch Station on December 5, 2018. TTDARES director Chen Hsin-yen stated that most of Taitung’s Annona trees are either atemoyas or sugar apples. They are relatively sweet and usually only eaten fresh, hence a lack of diversity in terms of use. Soursops, on the other hand, are sour, rich with the fragrance of a tropical fruit, and suited to being eaten fresh or processed. At the event, assistant researcher Chen Hsiao Chun discussed the growth and plant characteristics of soursops as well as their potential when processed. Attendees were given a taste of fresh soursop fruit, dried soursop, and soursop jelly. They were very attentive and expressed interest in growing the fruit. The TTDARES hopes the event will promote soursop cultivation in Taitung, injecting a new force of vitality into the local Annona industry.
