The Taitung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station (TAITUNG DARES) of the Ministry of Agricultural has long been involved in boosting Taitung’s indigenous people’s special crop industry, working to increase the number of varieties of these crops and develop a diversity of uses. As a result, the TAITUNG DARES held a meeting for the naming of a new variety of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.). After a review of related documents and an on-site evaluation, the committee unanimously decided on the name roselle ‘Taitung No. 6-black crystal’. Anthocyanin content of calyx for roselle ‘Taitung No. 6-black crystal’ is up to 30.6 mg/g DW, which is 7.7 times of the main variety ‘Taitung No. 3’. Yield of calyx for roselle ‘Taitung No. 6-black crystal’ is up to 1,200 kg/ha DW, which is 4 times of the main variety ‘Taitung No. 3’. Roselle ‘Taitung No. 6’ suitable for once harvest, that can labor-saving harvest.
