Abstract

Based on a questionnaire entitled “Self-evaluation Scale for Farmers,” this study analyzes the situation and capacity for risk of young farmers in Taitung. The scale was designed with questions on personal information and the capacity for risk of young people in the agricultural industry. The subjects of the study were young farmers who were members of the Taitung Youth Farmers organization. In the results, based on the differing features of their work in the agricultural industry and their graded capacity to bear risk, the subjects were divided into five categories: conservative, prudent, venturous, potentially venturous, and passive. According to the differences among these categories, major points of guidance are proposed as a reference for government agricultural agencies in formulating related policies.

Key words: Agricultural risk, young farmers, guidance strategies
